Although relatively new to the scene, having launched Wicked Wolf Exmoor Gin in September 2015, husband and wife team, Pat Patel and Julie Heap, have experienced phenomenal success, managing to secure their signature product as one of the county’s best-selling gin brands.

Pat and Julie predicted making around 50 bottles a week, but demand for their product has seen the couple create nine times their first estimate, generating around 450 bottles per week.

Distilled using the perfect combination of 11 exotic botanicals, Wicked Wolf Exmoor Gin is balanced with distinct flavours of juniper and coriander, with notes of citrus, pepper and the extra aromas of hibiscus and kaffir lime. To ensure every bottle is consistent, the process is completed by hand and the gin is filtered at each stage to produce a smooth, full-bodied and elegant 42% ABV spirit.

Pat and Julie met at college in Falmouth before spending 20 years in London. It wasn’t until they moved back to the South West that together they took their dream of crafting a unique product packed with flavour and turned it into a reality.

Pat comments: “When we moved back to the West Country we were initially planning to start up a smoke house but we soon realised that there were some really high costs involved. We knew we wanted to do something to do with food or drink, something creating a lot of flavour and at the time gin was also really taking off so we went opted to create our own signature drink brand.

After a lot of testing and feedback from our local pub – the Blue Ball in Countisbury, we set about creating Wicked Wolf Exmoor Gin and we are so glad we did!”

Pat and Julie distil the gin in a copper alembic still, it is then blended and filtered. The gin is then bottled and labelled by hand from their home inside a converted Methodist church in North Devon
