Nestled in the heart of the South Devon countryside, overlooking the beautiful River Dart lies Sharpham Vineyard, where award-winning wines have been produced for over 20 years. The vineyard offers a full wine experience for visitors, from sampling among the very vines where it begins, to listening the experts talk about the intricate wine-making process.

Using many different grape varieties and methods allows Sharpham to produce 15 different styles. A range of tasting tours allows visitors to try as many or as few styles as they wish, which in turn has helped Sharpham work out which of their products are the most popular.

Assistant Winemaker, Tommy Grimshaw, explains: “A visit to Sharpham means that you can get a real feel from where it all begins and with so many different styles we can help you find one which will cater to your palette.”

Sharpham’s most popular styles

Sparkling Blanc – It’s no surprise that this crisp and fruity wine is one of the most popular, with sparkling wines as a whole, increasingly popular. Visitors to Sharpham often ask to sample the Sparkling Blanc, comparing it to Champagne. This particular product has recently won a silver award in the 2016 International Wine Challenge.

Dart Valley Reserve – This easy-going white has a fresh, light character which has been achieved through the careful blending of different grape varieties. Tommy says: “This wine has a really rounded flavour and people find it easy to enjoy. I always say it’s the perfect present because it suits everyone.”

Sharpham Red – Pino Noir – If there’s one product which has taken the vineyard by surprise, it’s the sweet and fruity flavours of Sharpham red – Pinot Noir. It has recently been awarded as the 2nd best in the UK Vineyards Association Wine of the Year Competition which is a massive achievement. Tommy adds: “We never envisaged the popularity of this wine but people come and they try and they’re pleasantly surprised that we can make such a good red here in the UK.”
